A new deli is coming to East Main Street in Bexley. Newfangled Kitchen, locally owned by Eric and Laura Dennison, will open next Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Eric Dennison has been in the service industry for more than 25 years. He spent eight of those years as general manager at Katzinger’s Delicatessen in German Village. Three years ago, the Dennisons started conceptualizing what their own restaurant would look like.
“We really love the nostalgia of food,” says Eric, “taking older concepts and then taking a chef-inspired twist on them, make them more relevant today.”
Their core item is a meatloaf sandwich. Eric says his recipe makes the meatloaf more versatile — it’s available in five varieties. Guests can opt for the Swiss’shroom Melt, which stacks the meatloaf with portabellas, swiss, and “Fang Sauce,” all grilled on marbled rye. Lucifer’s Hammer adds some spice to the meatloaf, with jalapeños, pepper jack cheese and diablo sauce. There’s a more classic version, The Fang, that combines LTOP with American cheese and Fang Sauce on an egg-washed bun. Then there’s the Joe Cool, with chilled meatloaf, LTOP and ketchup on white bread; and the Southern Melt, with pimento cheese, tomato and red onion, all grilled on marbled rye.
Those who aren’t a fan of meatloaf can find other options, like a roasted chicken sandwich or chicken salad sandwich. There’s egg salad, tuna salad, turkey swiss and grilled bologna. Sides include a dill pickle potato salad, slaw, fruit, and chips. They round out the menu with soup, salad and dessert. Kids have their own menu as well.
Newfangled Kitchen is located at 2258 E. Main St., where C’est Si Bon operated until late September. The Dennisons acquired the space last month and have implemented some cosmetic changes, including a new paint job and fixtures.
Guests can go to the counter to order and pick up their food. There’s seating inside for about 15 people.
Once open, Newfangled Kitchen will operate six days per week, closing on Mondays. They’ll open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
