Last week, we got our first look at a new 11-story apartment building proposal from local developers Crawford Hoying that would replace the three-story Swan Cleaners building at the Downtown intersection of Cherry Street and High Street if built as planned. While the original article only featured basic building schematics as visuals, we’ve been given an exclusive first look at the building’s initial design, created by local architectural firm DesignGroup.
The rendering showcases the building from a diagonal view facing north on High Street, showing the full length of the building along Cherry Street as it would sit with ground-floor retail space facing out onto Cherry. Behind the new building are renderings of the two LC Riversouth apartment buildings, which are currently under construction, albeit delayed and behind schedule.
“With the High and Cherry location we are excited to bring our perspective on urban development to downtown Columbus,” Crawford Hoying Principal Brent Crawford told Columbus Underground last week. “This is one of the few remaining sites in the River South neighborhood and we know our residents will take advantage of the recent public improvements within the area.”
If constructed as proposed, the building will contain 120 apartment units over ground floor retail spaces and structured parking for 22 cars and 60 bikes. The project will go in front of the Downtown Commission on September 20th for conceptual review.
