You may not have already noticed, but the quantity of Short North public parking spaces quietly increased by 105 spots last month. The brand new parking garage at The Castle development — located at 985 N. High St. — opened for public use on May 5.
Additionally, the garage is participating in the Short North parking validation program, designed to help customers access local businesses during the disruptions caused by the ongoing streetscape construction project. Customers who park in the garage between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and get their parking validated at a participating business will only pay $1 for their first hour of parking. Non-validated parking rates for the garage currently range from $4 for the first hour up to a $25 maximum for 24 hours.
In addition to the 105 public parking spaces, the building includes another 105 parking spots for apartment residents in the new eight-story building. Residents are expected to begin moving into units in mid-June.
The flagship White Castle restaurant located in the building is also slated to open later this month, and the parking garage features a unique interior drive-through ordering system and pick-up window for customers. Future retail tenants announced for the building include a Penzone Salon + Spa and Orangetheory Fitness.
The development replaced a former suburban-style White Castle building and a 42-space surface parking lot.
