New Restaurants and Coffee Shop Added to Creekside in Gahanna

This year, Creekside is seeing the kind of resurgence that makes other communities jealous, from new residential apartment leasing, to a slew of up and coming businesses. Among these are new restaurants, offering Gahannians what they love in bright, shiny new wrappers. Here’s a look at three of the newest eating establishments at three different stages:

    Three Creeks Coffee Roasters

Three Creeks Coffee opened  at 101 Mill Street on January 31st of this year to little fanfare. The store replaced Crazy Goat Coffee, which may be the reason folks don’t realize that the space is under new management. But once you try their coffees, scones, and sandwiches, you’ll pay attention to what owner Lisa Brown and her team are trying to do.

“Our passionate approach to coffee is what drives us to provide Columbus with the absolute highest quality coffee,” Brown states. “You’ll always find new and exciting single origin coffee from both locally and nationally acclaimed roasters, available in several different alternate brew methods for your drinking pleasure.”

At Three Creeks, they’re always on the hunt for the perfect cup of coffee, and they invite patrons to join in on the fun. They source their beans from local roasters like Café Brioso and One Line Coffee, and offer breakfast pastries and wraps to accompany your brew.

In addition, Three Creeks Coffee serves lunch every day, with specialty sandwiches offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. These can include Roasted Honey Turkey with lettuce, tomato, and basil pesto, or Roast Beef with horseradish, lettuce, tomato, and provolone.

Before the end of the year, Three Creeks Coffee Roasters hopes to have their own roaster so they can get in on the roasting game. This will make it the only female-owned coffee bar in the city roasting in-house. They also plan to expand their selection of pastries as they own their own bakery in Pickerington. Brown also owns Planet Coffee & Tea Company.

“The community has responded very well, and is pleased they still have a coffee shop,” Brown shares. “We want to give coffee the respect it deserves, birthed from the hard work of farming, growing, picking, and processing.”

Three Creeks Coffee Roasters is open from 6:30am-8:00pm, Monday through Thursday, 6:30am-9pm on Fridays, 8am-9pm on Saturdays, and 8am-4pm on Sundays. For more on their daily roasts and menu selections, follow them at www.facebook.com/ThreeCreeksCoffee.

    Ciao Vino Italian Kitchen

Classic Italian fare is something that Creekside frequenters have always appreciated, so when Mezzo Ristorante closed their doors at 121 Mill Street, earlier this year, locals were worried. They shouldn’t have been, because Craig and Laura Decker, owners of The Wine Guy Bistro, had a plan for the space.

“It seemed like the right location, and the structure is beautiful,” Ciao Vino manager Dan Williams says. “It was the right time to do something different from The Wine Guys, something interesting and adventurous. It was absolutely serendipitous.”

Ciao Vino opened for business on June 4th. Its menu includes the old-world Italian dishes people will never get enough of, like Spaghetti and Meatballs, the house tradition made with their own grandmother-approved red sauce, and Osso Bucco Ravioli – mushroom ravioli stuffed with slow braised osso bucco and finished in a shitake cream sauce.

They also take liberties with the classics, injecting their own distinct flair into the menu. Like with the Mozzarella Fritto, a ball of the melt-ready cheese dunked in beer batter, fried, and served with wilted spinach and house red sauce. Or the Spinach and Roasted Beet Salad, which includes two different types of beets, goat cheese, granny smith apple and pine nuts dressed in a sherry pistachio vinaigrette.

“We want people to come in and enjoy traditional food made with heart,” Williams imparts. “We are old world chic. It’s an upscale environment because everything is done with care.”

Ciao Vino Italian Kitchen is open 3:30pm-9:30pm, Monday through Thursday, and 3:30pm-10:30pm Fridays and Saturdays. For a longer look at the menu, visit www.thewineguywineshop.com/ciao_vino.

    Local Cantina

In this day and age, word of mouth can make or break your business. So when customers at Local Cantina in Grandview Heights let owner George Tenchevski and his staff know that Gahanna could really use the kind of life that the Cantina had brought to Grandview, they considered it – and then acted on it.

As the Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival is underway this weekend, locals and visitors will be able to stop by the 510 Creekside Plaza spot where Buck Mulligan’s Irish Pub once stood, to check out the latest Local Cantina in Central Ohio.

“Gahanna was missing a few things, like craft tacos and craft beer,” says manager Francis Heath. “We are going to do our best to bring both. Our owner believes in this location. It’s a beautiful part of the city he wants to see succeed.”

The new Local Cantina will continue to offer its patron-friendly menu of tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, all at reasonable prices, as well as the cervezas and margaritas everyone loves. In addition, they will be focusing especially on their Sunday Brunch, which could feature Huevos Rancheros and Mexican Toast. There will also be ever-evolving seasonal items as their beer selection rotates.

This is the place you definitely want to try this summer as Local Cantina’s layout is designed for long, sunny days and warm, muggy night. Their interior will have seven tables along a garage door that opens up into the most amazing view of the creek and Creekside Stage, and the full patio, which will seat a decent crowd. The layout is in anticipation of the crowds that will flock to Cantina as Creekside’s presence on the local scene emerges.

“The local businesses have been fantastic,” Heath states. “We are really excited about The Wine Guy opening next door. Together, we cover different styles for Creekside to enjoy.”
