New Owner at Bono Pizza Keeps Wood Fired Ovens Running

There are dozens of pizza joints all around town, several in the Grandview Heights and Fifth by North West neighborhoods. So to be successful in such a market, Bono Pizza had to do something that would make them stand out – and they did.

Recently taken over by former manager and owner Jake Wilch, Bono is simultaneously an elegant Italian restaurant and a dive, making quality pies with fresh ingredients cooked in a wood-fired oven, while still allowing its patrons to bring in their own drinks which can be sipped, pinkie up or down, from a vast collection of Goodwill glasses.

Here at Bono, you can choose from one of their specialty pizzas like the Hulk, sauced with pesto and topped with fresh mozzarella and a myriad of green herbs and vegetables, or the Cherry Bomb, with Thai hot sauce and habaneros. Or you can create your own signature pie from their long list of  locally-sourced ingredients, including cheeses like brie and feta, and unexpected fixings like eggplant and zucchini.

“We want people to come in, sit down, and actually enjoy what they’re eating before they rush off to their day,” says Wilch. “It’s a family-friendly joint, and everyone is super-outgoing, so you’ll have a good time”.

The dine-in area is cozy, but customers can buy their drink of choice from the neighboring Kroger to enjoy with their dinner. Bono Pizza has recently extended their hours to 5pm-10pm Wednesday through Monday. It’s also a cash-only joint, so bring your bills and your appetite and get ready for a pizza experience worth having.
