Gallery: New Northside Library Branch Set to Open Thursday

Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Northside Branch is set to open on Thursday after more than a year of construction. Columbus Underground took another round of pictures of the new space in advance of the 3:30 p.m. ribbon cutting, which is open to the public. A lot of progress has been made since we last checked in on the two-story, 25,000 square foot building in April – furniture is now in place, books are being shelved, and a new piece of art by Italian artist Loris Cecchini has been hung from the ceiling.

The new branch, at 1423 North High Street, will be open Monday through Thursday from 9am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

There is often a complex interplay between preservation and progress. A year into his exploration, Columbus Underground reporter Jesse Bethea continues to sift through the story of how the removal of remains from what was once the North Market parking lot unfolded. From the contentious removal of centuries-old graves to the forensic analysis of unearthed remains, today’s episode navigates the ethical, legal, and emotional complexities surrounding the issue.  In the quest to honor the past while embracing the future, we examine what lies beneath the surface of urban development and confront the ghosts of history that still shape our city today.
