Parents and fussy toddlers alike can now get their recommended daily amount of fruits and vegetables in the more palatable form of popsicles.
Columbus City Schools teacher Anique Thomas and her fiancé Ali, inspired by their 2-year-old son Little Ali, recently launched Too Good Eats, a brand of vegan popsicles containing fresh fruit, vegetables and leaving out artificial flavors and added sugar.
“Our whole mission is to provide a creative way for people to eat fruits and vegetables and promote a healthy lifestyle,” Thomas said. “There’s plenty of options out there, but our ice pops are a good option. They’re a healthy option.”
Whether it’s the Pineapple Supreme, Blurple Wonder or Too Good Green, they’ve managed to sneak in vegetables like yellow and red beets, kale and red cabbage under the cover of blueberries, pears and peaches. And instead of using sugar to sweeten, Thomas said they prefer to use dates.
The recipes were trial and error at first, Thomas said. But after each flavor was developed, the couple would throw a tasting party for friends and family. And of course they’d run the flavor by their first taste tester: Little Ali.
Too Good Eats launched June 9 and pops up at local farmers markets. While their main line is fruit and vegetable-based popsicles, they will have a winter line later this year including items like Pumpkin Spice, Coffee, and Fudge pops.
