New Gaming Bar Concept Replacing World of Beer at the Gateway

Gateway shoppers and diners will have a new place to “eat, play, pour and drink” later this month. The District PourHouse, featuring a made-to-order hot dog stand as well as two gaming lounges and an arcade, will replace World of Beer at 1568 N. High St. on Thursday, August 16. The new concept is a rebrand and remains under the same ownership as World of Beer.

“While we loved having WOB at the Gateway, we are thrilled at ownership’s decision to re-brand to a new concept that’s more organic to the University District – even the name ties in nicely, ‘The District PourHouse,’ said Christiana Moffa Gateway Property Manager, in a statement. “The University District and the Gateway strive to have the perfect mix of value-added Ohio-based and select national tenants, as guided by to the demands of the customer base and the needs of the greater neighborhood.”

“As Columbus grows and develops, so evolves the nightlife scene,” said Darren Greene, co-owner of The District PourHouse, in a press release. “We are so excited to offer this neighborhood pub that will not only be more approachable for the college student in terms of budget and offerings, but will also be a place that draws millennials, alumni and baby boomers, bringing even more energy to the Gateway – University District.”

Taking over World of Beer, the District PourHouse will offer a menu of hot dogs, “trendy biscuit bowls,” burgers and sandwiches. At the 50-tap bar, guests will find national brands like Natty Light, Rolling Rock and PBR along with other “highly popular Ohio and global crafts.” Classic cocktails, build-your-own mules, and infused and barrel-aged spirits will also be available.

TVs over the bar will display the video game conquests of guests utilizing the PourHouse’s retro gaming lounges, which will offer an array of consoles. An elevated arcade will feature classic games like Ms. Pac Man, Atari, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Frogger, Pinball, and Foosball, among others.

The restaurant has a beer garden and patio, which will host game days and “special theme nights,” including an “Open Vinyl” night, where guests can sign up to play their own records for 15-minute increments.

“From grabbing a late night Cincy dog with buddies to watching the biggest game on television or trying to beat your best Asteroids score, The District PourHouse will be a place that everyone can kick back and have a great time,” Greene said.
