New Covered Bike Parking Debuts on High Street Near OSU

The first of ten covered bike shelters will be making its official debut tomorrow morning. Located at 1912 North High Street (between 16th and 17th Avenues), the new structure contains five U-shaped racks for locking up bikes within a very short walk of The Wexner Center, multiple restaurants, and several major bus lines.

“With a growing number of people using bicycles for strictly transportation purposes, there is a growing demand for end-of-ride facilities, said Jeff Stephens, Executive Director of Consider Biking. “These bike parking structures meet that demand with elegance, functionality, and cost effectiveness. But most importantly, they send a highly visible message that bicycling is a viable and mainstream form of transportation, worthy of equitable investment in infrastructure needs.”

Additional bike shelters will be constructed through the Spring of 2012 in various locations around the city determined by suggestions provided last fall. A separate initiative being led by Capital Crossroads will be adding bike parking infrastructure to Downtown soon as well.
