True to its name, BLunch, now open in Clintonville, offers a daily spot for breakfast and lunch to the neighborhood. Nestled in a little strip that’s home to Condado’s upcoming location and Lineage Brewing, BLunch intends to broaden the options available to the community’s shoppers, walkers and socializers.
Husband and wife co-owners Jane and Jeff White were looking for a new restaurant venture. After selling their other business, Mudflats Bar & Grill in Galena, they initially planned to open their breakfast-lunch concept Downtown.
“We’ve just traveled, fortunately, quite a bit throughout the U.S. and enjoy this kind of place in other cities and didn’t see a lot of it here,” Jane White said. “We weren’t looking in Clintonville, actually. I definitely wanted to be Downtown — I just didn’t know where, and then this spot became available and it’s just perfect, I think, for us.”
The space is small but bright with natural light and colorful murals by local artists Stephanie Rond and Adam Hernandez. It can seat a few more than 60 people and has both tables and a full bar. A patio will provide outdoor seating for the remaining warmer days of fall.
The menu is packed with appetizers like Italian donuts, a pancake flight and bacon on a stick, as well as omelets, benedicts, specialty pancakes, toasts, salads, and sandwiches. Breakfast entrees, including a homemade corned beef hash and huevos rancheros, can also be found on the menu.
Having a full bar, BLunch provides a range of breakfast cocktails, such as the BLunch Bloody, Breakfast Manhattan, and mimosas. Traditional breakfast drinks are available, too, including espresso, cappucinos, lattes, mochas, hot chocolate, and tea.
BLunch sits at 2973 N. High St., right between Lineage Brewing and Condado. White sees it as a good mix for the strip, so that “We’re not stepping on each other’s toes.” She sees the destination attracting the pedestrian traffic in the neighborhood.
“This is an awesome neighborhood,” Jane White said. “So many people can walk here, families, and there are all different age groups here. And everyone’s just been so warm and embracing, and they love the atmosphere, which I think the artists did a great job, so that helps.”
While Mudflats remained open through lunch, dinner and beyond, the Whites are changing it up with BLunch. Sacrificing their love for live music to get some sanity in their schedules, they’ll have BLunch open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
