Sassafras Bakery will give it one last go, this Saturday, August 21, then close the doors to its Worthington bakery, 657 High St.
However, posts announcing the imminent closure promise a new chapter and end with a word to watch the bakery’s social media channels, “for up to date information on how you can participate in the next evolution of Sassafras Bakery.”
Over the last 14 years, Owner AJ Perry grew the operation from a sellout table at the farmers market, to a brick-and-mortar bakery offering savory and sweet pastries, sandwiches, salads, soups and beverages.
“I have decided to change gears,” Perry said in the announcement. “Saturday, August 14 was the last day of regular business at our brick-and-mortar location in Worthington. Your support (especially over these exceptionally challenging last 18 months) has meant absolutely everything. Our sales are on track to celebrate our best year ever and we have you to thank for that.”
Operating for nearly eight years on High Street, the bakery got creative during the pandemic, offering take-home family meal kits, take and bake goodies and more.
“It has been a thrill. My personal goals and guiding principles have always been that you would experience comfort, nostalgia, and magic with each bite,” Perry said. “This always brought tremendous delight and heart-felt comfort to me.”
On Saturday, August 21 Sassafras will be open from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. selling off its inventory of dishware, decor and remaining cookies and take and bake scones. Guests can also say goodbye by leaving a note in the bakery’s memory book.
As for the address, Sassafras promises that a “very delicious” small business will take over the location.
