A four-story, 160-unit apartment building is under construction in the Fifth by Northwest neighborhood. The new development, called the Quinn, sits on a 2.8-acre piece of land at 1341 Norton Ave.

Construction work started a few months ago, and interest from potential renters is expected to be high, according to Chad Seiber of Mulberry Design + Build, who is a partner in the project.

“We worked with Pod Design on the pool area, and it’s stunning…it’s going to be the nicest pool in Columbus.” said Seiber, adding that Elford Development has taken the lead on the day-to-day management of the project since coming on as a partner.

The apartments will be a mix of 400 square foot micro-units and larger one-bedrooms, with a small portion of them set aside to be used as Airbnb rentals. That’s a trend that we are likely to see more of in Columbus, according to Seiber.

“We have a bunch of Airbnb units in the Short North, and they’re all doing really well,” he said, explaining that using the service to rent out carriage house apartments and other scattered units in desirable neighborhoods has been a successful strategy for Mulberry.

The new development is located just south of the parking garage for the View on Fifth. It required the demolition of a 56,000 square foot warehouse, a building that was home to the Fournier Rubber & Supply Co., and to Glass Axis prior to the organization’s relocation to Franklinton in 2014.
