New 28-Unit Condo Development Proposed Downtown
The build-out continues of Neighborhood Launch, the Edwards Companies’ seven-and-a-half-acre residential development in Downtown Columbus.
With construction wrapping up on the first phase of Sixth Street Mews — a 13-unit condo project that sits just south of The Welsh community center — plans for phase two have been submitted to the Downtown Commission.
Those plans call for a 28-unit development directly across North Sixth Street – the current site of a surface parking lot — which would mirror the look and layout of phase one. Submitted site plans show two rows of three-story buildings facing an internal courtyard.
Notes on the proposal in the packet submitted to the city refer to the courtyard as a “private park area for exclusive use of the residents,” and state that the “architectural details (are) drawn from the Historic Mews neighborhoods of London.”
The proposed buildings would hold four three-story end units, eight ground-level flats, and 16 two-story townhomes. Garages with space for 32 cars would be accessed from two alleys running east-west.
A representative from Edwards declined to comment on the project, but did confirm that 11 of the 13 units in the first phase of Sixth Street Mews are in contract.
The project will be heard at the February 28th Downtown Commission meeting.
