Columbus and Nationwide realized that something needed to be done with the walkways, which the city has owned since they and the park were built in 1980.
It has been unclear who is responsible for maintenance of the walkways and park, said Paul Rakosky, the city’s deputy director of finance and management.
The city and Nationwide reached an agreement in January. To fix the walkways, the city will spend as much as $2.3 million, and Nationwide could contribute up to $5 million more, Rakosky said. Nationwide will oversee the project, which is to be competitively bid.
