The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) announced yesterday evening that the organization is once again looking for a new space to call home.
Currently located at 111 Liberty Street in the Brewery District, the organization last explored a relocation to Downtown in 2011, but cancelled those plans in 2012. With a current lease set to expire in October 2017, the nonprofit regional planning group is ready to explore new opportunities in the heart of the city once again.
“The development and re-development occurring in downtown Columbus provides the perfect opportunity to see what else is out there,” stated MORPC Spokesperson Bernice Cage. “Our staff and members have come to love the Brewery District and the proximity to so many great amenities. Hopefully, our next location will offer just as many conveniences, if not more, that our staff and members can enjoy.”
As the region’s planning commission that is leading efforts for smart growth through initiatives like the Insight2050 Report, MORPC is evaluating criteria for their new office space that includes “access to public transit … along with facilities that accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians,” of which Downtown has aplenty. Their release yesterday also indicates that they are looking for “adjacent or nearby parking for MORPC members and guests” which is a lot harder to come by throughout a lot of Downtown.
