    Mi Mi Cafe

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten around to telling you guys about Mi Mi Cafe, my all-time favorite place to eat in Columbus. I was turned on to it by both Lisa and Rosie, and it’s been an at least weekly (if not more often) habit since then.

Mi Mi Cafe is a little Vietnamese joint in the Columbus Square Shopping Center (corner of E. Dublin Granville (161) and Cleveland Ave) over on the North Side of town (and a good 15-20 miles away from me, at that!) that does 4, maybe 5 items tops. But you can’t go wrong with any of them, honestly.

Like this Vietnamese Sandwich. Oh, how I love it. Crispy French roll, with the best liver pate on earth, a few kinds of pork, veggies (with just the right amount of jalapeno), some mayo and some Maggi, which all combines into something that’s downright magical. Now, I love the sandwiches at Lac Viet, but this baby puts those to shame. If I had to pick one food to live on for the rest of my life, this would be it.

Or the pho, the complex meat soup with 4 kinds of meat (some sound scary, but trust me, it’s all good), rice noodles, served in a huge bowl that you can slurp from happily. Go ahead, no one will look at you strangely.

But it wasn’t until today that I’ve had the crack that is Vietnamese iced coffee. My, oh my. I’m not much of a coffee drinker but I could mainline this stuff. I wish I lived closer so I could have a steady supply.

The kind man who runs the place will make the dishes however you want, in case something in particular turns you off about a dish (for instance, my husband loves the pork roll, but doesn’t like the red-edged pork, so he has sandwiches made with all pork roll). After a couple of times, he will remember you, and will know exactly how you want your food done. In any case, it’s definitely worth a trip to the North Side, even if you have no other reason to go there.

The city’s transit system is going through a transformation. At least that’s the intention. On the occasion of an impending transfer of power and a sales tax issue on the ballot this fall to bulk up services, Columbus Underground reporter Brent Warren sat down with both the outgoing and incoming CEOs of the Central Ohio Transit Authority (or COTA) to discuss the shift in leadership, the transportation projects set to be on the ballot this fall, and what’s next for the former Greyhound station in Downtown.
