The name Flemming Rasmussen may not ring any bells, but if you’re a heavy metal fan, you’ve probably heard some of his work. The Grammy-winning producer worked with Metallica on their early albums Ride The Lightening, Master of Puppets, and …And Justice For All, which were released in 1984, 1986, and 1988 respectively. Now Rasmussen will be making a visit to Columbus’ own Capital University on March 29. Rasmussen will be giving a Keynote speech as part of a workshop on Musical Technology.
Some of the topics covered will include choosing the right microphone, conducting a music industry interview, DJ techniques, sound for picture, and game audio. The day will also include a special performance from the Capital University MIDI Band, which specializes in high-tech live electronic music.
Rasmussen’s keynote speech will occur at 3pm, and he will also offer a master class. In addition to Metallica, he has worked with countless other talented artists — which most recently includes Monte Pittman, a longtime Madonna guitarist, who recently released a solo album. He has also produced music from artists like Blind Guardian and Ensiferum, and has been recognized by the Danish Grammys as producer of the year.
The workshop event will be run from 1pm to 6pm, and is free and open to the public. It will be held in Capital University’s Conservatory of Music and is made possible by Jim and Carol Davis Guest Artist and Residence Series Fund.
