Local Yoga Studio Wins International Prize, Offers Free Yoga Today

Modo Yoga is one of the most pleasant yoga-success stories in Columbus, Ohio. Since it opened in 2015, Modo’s variety of classes, cast of teachers, and number of students have steadily increased. Thanks to leadership by co-owners Chad Underwood and Elizabeth Moore, and with special event coordinator Kathleen Compton, Modo Columbus also completed an award-winning ‘Grow Your Yoga’ charity project. To celebrate, Modo is giving away yoga all day, today, Thursday, June 28, 2018 on their third anniversary day.

“What I am most proud of, is our yoga community in Columbus that made this possible,” says Underwood, co-owner of Modo Yoga Columbus at 1042 Dublin Rd. Celebrations on June 28 include free yoga classes all day, 20 percent off class passes and memberships (also available online Thursday), and some hefty retail discounts.

Modo Yoga Columbus recently received an award for most successful charity campaign of all 86 Modo International yoga studios. The studio on Dublin Road raised $6,976 for One Tree Planted, an organization committed to planting one tree in North America for every dollar earned.

“Most of the donations came from our $5 karma yoga classes,” noted Underwood. “And Kathleen Compton helped us put on a fantastic silent auction for the entire community; we had over 70 local businesses give us donations. It was a real team effort.”

Modo International’s Grow Your Yoga (GYY) campaign is an annual spring fundraiser for charitable organizations with a focus on green initiatives. The 2018 campaign raised $173,909.43 among the 86 Modo and Moksha yoga studios worldwide. Because Columbus raised more funds than any other studio (including those in the Toronto market!), Modo International awarded Modo Yoga Columbus a fun GYY necklace at its annual owners’ meeting this year.

Modo is also partnering with local non-profit Youth Yoga Project for a ‘brew-ga’ event on July 21st at Land Grant Brewing, 424 W. Town St. Pre-registration is suggested.

Modo Yoga Columbus also has another fun event coming up on August 19 at Huntington Park. For $20, students can do yoga on the infield at 11 a.m. and then hang out at the Clippers’ game that day. Tickets should be purchased 24 hrs ahead of time online.

Modo Yoga is located at 1042 Dublin Rd. in between Downtown Columbus and Grandview Avenue. For more information, visit modoyoga.com.
