The Worn Flints
Kenny Stiegele :: Guitar/Piano/Vox
Steve Trabulsi :: Bass
Jake Smith :: Drums/Samples
The Worn Flints have undeniably mastered the element of “the live performance.” Merely a three-piece, withholding energy of an entire symphony, The Worn Flints shed every ounce of their energy during a live performance, walking off the stage with a new skin. I was recently drenched by the sexy, blues, psychedelic trio at 4th Street Bar & Grill’s “Local Love,” submerged in the sheer talent of these three twenty-something musicians. The Worn Flints continue to remind me of how musicians can elegantly challenge themselves and their listeners to bottomless, uncut boundaries. The Worn Flints are the definition of organic blues-rock, further communicating vivid and profound messages to each listener. With genres touching on gritty, raw, blues-rock and psychedelia, The Worn Flints actively explore territories of abstract lyrics, heavy instrumentation and spontaneous composition. It is without a doubt that communication through music is the only medium that makes sense to these three boys.
The Worn Flints’s previously released record, If I stay Awake, glides through a series of intensified emotions, creating a record intended for deliberate listening. By touching on wandering piano solos, combative guitar solos, steady bass rhythms and lusty percussion riffs, The Worn Flints are certainly unpredictable. This element of spontaneity keeps the audience glued to every second of the performance, as vocalist Kenny takes control of each square-inch of the stage. While Kenny shreds his guitar without any mercy, the three-piece manages to create an intimate, personal relationship with the audience throughout the length of the performance. The stamina only continues to thrive as each track progresses, Jake (drummer) involuntarily wearing a smile on his face for the entire set. If I Stay Awake is an impressive representation of the three piece, highlighting the many directions The Worn Flints skillfully pursue.
With much excitement and anticipation, The Worn Flints are actively working towards finishing their 2015 release, an album entirely influenced by one specific concept. With a slew of musicians involved with the anticipated release, The Worn Flints have only begun to touch on their capabilities as musicians. Incorporating female vocals, cello, violin, saxophone and flute, The Worn Flints have eagerly taken in various Columbus musicians, and began a collaborative record for the books. A concept album that serves as an art piece rather than for listening pleasure, The Worn Flints are continuing to personally influence their listeners. Keep your eyes peeled for the Spring release, as The Worn Flints will shortly expose Columbus to their collective sounds.
