Gearing up for a performance at SXSW on March 16th, Joey Hebdo and Mike James are playing Brothers Drake Meadery tonight around 10:00.
Joey lists many influences to his music such as Andrew Bird, The Temptations, and most notably his father and grandfather. Hebdo said he grew up in a culture where there was singing all of the time.
Another band Joey is involved with, The Middle Rats, will release a collaborative album from local musicians sometime in April. Members include The Floorwalkers singer Jonathan Vernon, Mike James, and Jesse Michael Barr.
His music reminds me of a soundtrack to a Wes Anderson film in the best way possible or “adventure-folk” as Hebdo likes to call it. I especially like “Cold in the West” and “Come for Me” off of the Prosciutto album. Some tracks can be found on Spotify.
Check the duo out tonight at Brother Drake Meadery (26 E. 5th Ave.). Or if attending SXSW, Joey Hebdo is playing in a Columbus Showcase that highlights Columbus musicians. The Columbus Showcase takes place at Foo’s (The Treehouse Bar, 501 E. 6th St). Hebdo says, “If you’re randomly stopping by, you’ll get a taste of Columbus and free beer!”
