Part yoga studio, part retail shop, Cliff Wellness Yoga & Apothecary celebrates its grand opening in Marble Cliff on Monday, June 3. Located at 2125 W. Fifth Ave., the address creates a physical storefront for Cliff Original, as well as a number of other local brands.

Jared Friesner launched men’s grooming products company Cliff Original in 2013. The company has since expanded its product line, landed a contract with Hotel LeVeque and gotten its goods on store shelves at retailers like Lucky’s and Whole Foods.

Customers frequently ask Friesner if they can stop by his store, and until now, he’s had to direct them to retail partners. With Cliff Wellness, “It will be great to interact with our customers face-to-face,” he says.

Their own retail space also provides the opportunity to test out new products. Friesner says Cliff Original is working on a natural deodorant, and he expects to present other products that can only be purchased at the store.

Friesner had toyed around with the idea of a retail shop, but didn’t think the Cliff Original brand could support a store all its own. Instead, Cliff Wellness will feature a number of local brands selling grooming products, clothing, jewelry and more.

Adding to the apothecary side of the equation are local brands Otto, Concur, Sozo, Under Aurora, Girls with Curls, LuLu & Max and Wild Origins. The shop includes a handful of non-apothecary items, like Pink Moon Candles, jewelry from Cuffed by nano and Honey Rose & K, apparel from One80Out Supply, and supplements from Propello Life.

Cliff Wellness is also partnering with Lululemon to carry a select line of men’s and women’s apparel. Friesner developed a relationship with the athletic brand over the last handful of years through in-store pop-ups and is also a global ambassador for Lululemon.

Retail will occupy half of the front space of the building which is fronted by floor-to-ceiling windows. The other half will be reserved for yoga and other wellness classes.

Friesner is a yoga fan, which is why he decided to incorporate the practice into the space. He also wants to introduce new people, especially men, to its benefits.

Cliff Wellness is working with six to eight local yoga instructors for a lineup of three daily classes spanning morning to evening. The classes can accommodate about 12 – 15 students at a time. Thursday nights will be men’s night, with beginner yoga classes geared towards men followed by a craft beer tasting in partnership with local breweries.

If all goes according to plan, splitting space between yoga and retail will only be a few month affair. The address includes an additional 900 square foot room which Friesner plans to turn into a dedicated yoga space, while expanding the retail in front sometime this fall. There’s a basement too, which Friesner says is phase three and holds a number of possibilities.

When Cliff Wellness opens on June 3, it will hold yoga classes every day of the week. The retail area will be open Wednesday – Sunday 12:30 – 5 p.m. with eventual plans for daily hours.
