Kroger Closing Store on Northeast Side

Kroger is kicking off 2018 with a store closure that will impact residents on the Northeast side of Columbus and in the North Linden neighborhood. Effective January 31, the “Northern Lights” Kroger store will close its doors at 3353 Cleveland Ave.

“Kroger continually evaluates each store’s performance to ensure that it is best meeting the needs of the communities, associates and shareholders we serve,” stated Mike Murphy, VP of operations, Kroger’s Columbus Division. “Unfortunately, we are unable to continue a profitable operation and made the decision to close the store.”

Following the closure, the nearest Kroger for area residents is the store at 1745 Morse Rd. — which moved across the street into a rebuilt location in 2016. A Save-A-Lot grocery store sits directly across Cleveland Avenue from the closing Northern Lights Kroger, and a handful of other discount and ethnic grocers remain in the immediate vicinity.

All 121 employees of the closing store are being offered jobs at other locations in the region.
