After closing its doors in the Brewery District in early February, Kolache Republic is making a comeback in the neighborhood just steps from their original location.

Kolache Republic will take up residence inside The Daily Growler, 702 N. High St.

“We connected after announcing that we were closing our shop at 730 S. High St.,” says Kolache Republic Co-Founder Rick Jardiolin. “After several meetings with the Blakelys – the owners [of Daily Growler] – we knew this would be a good fit.”

Plans were being finalized in early March, then the coronavirus pandemic shut down Ohio, putting plans on hold until dine-in restrictions were eased in May.

Now, fans won’t have to wait long for the kolache comeback. The bakery, which specializes in the Texas-Czech style pastries and breakfast sandwiches, is expected to open at The Daily Growler within the next several weeks.

“Service will look similar to the old location with more seating available – dine-in and carryout will be available,” Jardiolin says. “What’s new is that we will now be offering food during happy hour, so customers can pick up a kolache while enjoying a beer or cocktail.”

That updated menu will be announced soon, along with Kolache’s hours.

“We’re excited to be back serving kolache to Columbus,” Jardiolin says. “Our closing was emotional. We listened to our customers and knew we had to do something to come back.”

The Daily Growler previously hosted Short & Stout Kitchen, which served its last meal in the space on January 5, 2020 after a seven-month run.
