Friends and Founders Dusty Kotchou, Rick Jardiolin and Doug Sauer have been slinging the Czech pastries for 10 years, starting at the Clintonville Farmers Market before graduating to their brick-and-mortar storefront in 2013.

“We are proud to have been the first locally-owned restaurant that took a chance on a desolate strip of High Street seven years ago before anyone had an idea how valuable the real estate surrounding us would become,” Sauer said. “For a few years, we remained alone on the strip and now our little corner on High Street has grown to include many booming bars and businesses, while rental rates have increased.”

The last handful of years have seen an influx of local businesses that include Local Cantina, Daily Growler, Antiques on High, Ambrose & Eve and most recently, Law Bird.

Kolache Republic’s owners say that the emergence of new businesses in the area would increase their rent to current market value, influencing their decision not to renew their lease.

“We’re really proud of what we’ve accomplished and we are extremely grateful to the community for supporting us throughout the years,” Jardiolin said. “We had a good run and it’s just the right time to hang up our oven mitts and focus on other projects for now.”
