Kitchen Social Opening at Polaris Later This YearJuly 2, 2019 11:29 am Lauren Sega
A modern day tavern is headed for Polaris. Kitchen Social, taking over the space near Condado at 8954 Lyra Drive, will open later this year.
The concept comes from a trio of entrepreneurs with a long history at Bravo and Brio restaurants. Kitchen Social will have the menu of a typical tavern — traditional, American fare — with lighter options available as well. Offerings will include seafood, salads, burgers, fried chicken, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, all prepared and made in-house.
Where Kitchen Social varies from a tavern is in its atmosphere, says co-owner Brian O’Malley.
“If you think of a typical tavern, they’re usually dark. Not a lot of light inside, dark wood,” says O’Malley, who runs Kitchen Social with partners Phil Yandalino and Brian Harvey. “We’re going to be the opposite. Light, airy, an indoor and outdoor bar, garage doors, a big patio with a fire pit and soft lighting.”
Behind the bar, Kitchen Social will focus heavily on cocktails, offer a boutique wine list of about 25 to 30 wines, and host four taps of Ohio craft beers. An additional 20 brews will be available in bottles and cans. They’re working with Watershed Distillery to put out a curated cocktail list, and they’ll have a Kitchen Social wine produced by a winery in California.
All together, the restaurant offers 4,200 square feet in a highly coveted area. O’Malley says the decision to set up at Polaris was a natural one, as consumers in Powell, Lewis Center, and other northern neighborhoods look for more local restaurants to patronize.
“There’s so much going on in the Short North and Dublin that we figured there’s a lot up here, but a lot of chains,” O’Malley says. “This area needs a more local restaurant which you can find in Dublin and the Short North.”
O’Malley and his partners signed the lease for Kitchen Social last week, and construction is now underway. Barring any complications, they hope to open by October.
