Jeni’s Reopening Scoop Shops This Weekend with Outsourced Production
After a second production shutdown last week, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams announced today that their scoop shops will reopen tomorrow evening at 5pm. The company is continuing to partner with Smith Dairy in Orrville, Ohio to produce ice cream while their Columbus production facility remains closed for further sanitation and inspection.
“The menu will be limited at first, featuring a mix of our ice creams, frozen yogurts, and sorbet—all made for us by our partners at Smith Dairy—along with sundaes, floats, and sauces,” stated Jeni’s founder Jeni Britton Bauer in a release posted on the company’s website. “We’ll be adding more flavors to the menu in the coming weeks.”
The company first discovered Listeria contamination issues with their production kitchen in April, which led to a product recall and retail store shutdown. Production resumed and stores reopened on May 22nd, but were closed again last week when the company discovered more Listeria while testing individual batches of product.
