An employee confirmed that today, Thursday, September 26 or tomorrow, Friday, September 27 is the last day for Jack’s Diner at 52 E. Lynn St.

Offering classic American diner fare for breakfast and lunch, the restaurant has been serving Downtown patrons since 1942.

Located in the alley between Broad and Gay Streets, the diner has been plagued by ongoing construction.

Improvements for Lynn Street and Pearl Alley were first proposed in 2012, with construction finally starting in 2016, when the project again faced delays once underway. Not long after the alley improvements were completed, a multi-year project to modernize Rhodes Tower began. Large scaffolding to support the work that will replace windows and make facade improvements first appeared in September of 2017. According to the latest Rhodes Tower Modernization Newsletter, work on the north side of the building which faces Lynn Street is not scheduled to be completed until the second quarter of 2021.

Jack’s Diner is not the first alley business to close its doors. El Arepazo closed its Pearl Alley location in late 2018, but was quickly replaced by Argentine restaurant Barroluco.
