    It’s Farmers’ Market Time – 2012

    It’s that time again! Farmers’ Markets are starting to spring up around town. This weekend marks the start for the Clintonville Farmers’ Market and Lancaster Farmers’ Market. The Market at 15th and High has changed their start time to August, to coincide with Ohio State University’s switch to semesters.

    If you don’t grow your own food or already support a CSA, Farmers’ Markets give you a chance to get some of the best local food around. (And if you do want to grow your own, don’t forget to check out City Folk’s Farm Shop!). Here’s an updated list for you to get the best produce grown here in Columbus and our surrounding areas.     NEW WINTERS MARKET! 400 West Rich Winter Farmers Market. Every other Saturday from noon to 4pm and Thursdays from 11 to 2pm operating in conjunction with Dinin’ Hall. In addition to food trucks, 400 Winter Market activities will include live music, art studio participation, break dancing instructions, children’s activities and more. December 1, 15, January 12, 26, February 9, 23, March 9, 23, April 6 and 20.

    Athens Farmers’ Market. A bit of a drive, but this one is great. There are so many vendors, you are sure to find whatever you are looking for. Located at 1000 East State Street, in the parking lot of the market on State. It will be celebrating its 40th year this June! Several anniversary events are planned for this summer. The market is open Saturdays Year-round from 10am-1pm and Wednesdays from 10am-1pm, running April 11 through December. Their website was redone for the 40th celebration. Like them on Facebook.

    Bexley Farmers’ Market, Corner of Parkview and Main St., Thursdays from 4-7pm, May 17 – October 25. Locally grown produce, meats and cheeses, children’s events, food demonstrations. New this year is Mockingbird Meadows, Batch Bakery and Dan the Baker. Like them on Facebook. Follow on twitter.

    Bexley Natural Market, 508 North Cassady Avenue in their parking lot. Farmers’ Market, Wednesdays from 4-7pm, starting May 2nd. Every other Wednesday, until around June when it will be every Wednesday.

    Blendon Township Farmers’ Market, Faith Covenant Church, 3607 Dempsey Road, Westerville, Ohio 43081, Thursdays from 3pm to 6pm, July 5 – October 25. Flowers and herbs, vegetables and fruits, oil soaps, cottage goods.

    NEW WINTERS MARKET! Clintonville Farmers’ Market, on N. High St. between Orchard Lane and West Dunedin Road, Saturdays 9am to 12pm, April 28 – October 27. An outdoor, producer-only market now in its’ 10th year. The market is an EBT/SNAP (USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program–formerly food stamps) site. Both EBT cards and debit cards will be accepted at the market tent for $1 EBT and $5 Debit tokens. New this year, during the mid-season months of July and August is Slow Down Wednesday, a mid-week 4:30-7:30 pm market at the same location. Slow Down Wednesday, a partnership of Clintonville Farmers’ Market, Global Gallery, and Slow Food Columbus, focuses on cooking, meal preparation, and of course, locally-grown and produced food and flowers! Special events include the Spring Sprout Market on April 28th to kick off the season, Dirt Day and Kids’ Garden Club Sign-up! on May 5th, and the Harvest Market on November 17th.     Clintonville Farmers’ Market (CFM) is partnering with St. James Episcopal Church to host the organization’s first winter season market. The market will be held every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., January 12 through April 13, 2013, at St. James Episcopal Church (3400 Calumet Street, Columbus, OH 43214). Many of the products at CFM’s regular season market will be available, including: Ohio-grown produce, pasture-raised meats, eggs, cheeses, mushrooms, artisan breads, baked goods, honey, and jams. The Clintonville Farmers’ Market is now a 4 season, “producer-only” market, which means all of the available products are made by the growers and cottage food operations coming to market. The market accepts EBT/SNAP (USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program–formerly food stamps) and debit cards in exchange for market tokens at the information table.

    Columbus Commons Market, No Farmers’ Market this year. Food Truck Food Court events will take place Thursdays from 11 am to 2 pm, and will run from May 31 to September 27, 2012, excluding August 9, 2012.

    Columbus Public Health Market, August 9th, 16th and 23rd from 10:00am to 1:00pm on the CPH front lawn 240 Parsons Avenue.

    NEW WINTERS MARKET! Columbus Winters Farmer’s Market. The Columbus Winter Farmers Market is held the 1st & 3rd Saturday’s from November through March, the hours are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The farmers market is held in the Charity Newsies building at 4300 Indianola Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43214. We invite you to make the Columbus Winter Farmers Market your fun Saturday destination.

    Delaware Farmers’ Market: The Main Street Farmer’s Market (Historic downtown Delaware), 2012 season will begin on May 26 and run through Saturday, October 27, 2012, weather permitting. Hours are Saturday 9:30am-12:30pm and Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m.

    Dublin Farmers’ Market, ‘Six new vendors, a diverse array of products including dog food and gluten free products, the new season is sure to satisfy your needs’.     East Side Farmers Market, Mt. Vernon Plaza, No dates listed as of publication.

    Easton Farmers Market, in the Town Square, Thursdays, June 7 through August 30, 4-7pm, rain or shine. Easton had a great first year market and will continue to host vendors from all over the state of Ohio. Over 30 vendors and you will find herbs, flowers, vegetables, free range chicken and grass fed beef and pork as well as artisanal foods, eco products and exquisite handicrafts. They are planning on having special events and activities for children during the market. (They will also store your veggies if you want to keep shopping!).     NEW! Franklin Park Conservatory Farmers’ Market, Wednesdays, June 6–October 17, from 3–7pm. Offering fresh produce, eggs, meat, honey, a variety of cottage foods and personal care items from Ohio’s quality farmers and producers. Stop by on your way home from work or bring the whole family! Grab dinner at a food truck and enjoy family entertainment, activities and cooking demos each week. The Market will be held on Conservatory Drive just north of the main building and visible from East Broad Street. Ample free parking available!

    German Village Farm Market, Kight Studio 551, 551 S. Fifth Street, in the parking lot. Saturday, July 7, 9am-noon every Saturday until fall. Farmer John and his partner Clint Beardsley own Heron Creek Farm in Chesterville (near Mt. Gilead) and you will find brown eggs, homemade noodles, fruit preserves, pies, and whatever herbs, vegetables, fruits, flowers, etc. might be ready.

    Grandview Avenue Farmers Market, an open-air farmers market in its 9th season. Enjoy shopping for farm fresh produce and getting to know your farmer! Make time for a leisurely weekend brunch at nearby gourmet restaurants on Grandview Avenue. Our vendors sell certified locally-grown seasonal produce, artisan baked goods, handmade soaps, annuals, perennials, and more.     Granville Farmers’ Market, Saturdays, May 19 to October 20; 8:30 am to noon; N. Main St. Has been called the “best in Central Ohio.” Located 30 miles east of Columbus. Like them on Facebook.

    Grove City Farmers’ Market, Every Saturday June 30 through September 8 from 8am-Noon. Family Fun Day is Saturday July 21, area farmers partner with the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce to bring the best of summer’s harvest to Grove City’s Town Center, 4035 Broadway Grove City OH 43123.

    Jefferson Community Farmers Market, Jefferson Community Park, 7494 Clark State Rd. June 23 through September 8, Every Saturday 9am-12pm. Vendors from all over central Ohio offer a large variety of farm-grown and home made goods, from lettuce, sweet corn, melons and cut flowers to bread, scones, honey and goat cheese.

    Lancaster Farmer’s Market, Downtown Lancaster, Corner of Wheeling & Memorial, Lancaster, Ohio 43130, Every Saturday 8am-12pm, April 28 through October 27. Tuesday evenings, 5 pm-8 pm from May-September. (Tuesday market will be held right across the street from our Saturday location in the other JFS parking lot located right next to the Marathon on Memorial Dr.). AND! Lancaster Handmade Market the first Saturday of the month, May-October from 9am-1pm at Broad & Main.

    Market & 15th and High, on the Wexner Center Plaza, will begin it’s 2012 market season on Thursday, August 23rd at 3:30pm, rain or shine. Visitors can enjoy free exhibition admission each Thursday from 4pm-8pm. Like them on Facebook. Follow on Twitter.

    Nationwide Children’s Hospital, six farmers markets this year, July 31, August 14 and 28, September 11 and 25, October 9. New Location! The Markets will be head in Livingston Park, at 760 E. Livingston Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43205. They will run from 11:30am to 1:30pm and are open to the public. As well, the Markets are approved to accept the Ohio EBT Card, WIC, and Senior Coupons.     New Albany Farmers’ Market, 200 Market Street, Market Street Square, Every Thursday 4-7pm, June 28 through September 13. At this “Producer-only” market, you will find over thirty vendors with local fruits, vegetables, herbs, breads, poultry, beef, dairy, eggs and gluten free baked goods, and salsas.     North Market Farmers’ Market, 59 Spruce St., Saturdays 8am, May 12- end of October/early November. The North Market is a ‘Sell What You Grow’ Farmers’ Market, with 25 vendors offering their best. The Market to Market Ride will take place on May 5 (a collaboration with The Hills Market). Other special events include: Grillmaster’s Festival June 16, Food & Ohio Wine Festival July 13-15, Farmer’s Festival August 11, Columbus Microbrew Festival September 14-15, Harvest Festival and Fall Market to Market Ride October 13. The Artisan Sundays that bring local arts and craftspeople are every Sunday of the month (May 6-Oct 28). Other special events include cooking demonstrations.     Pearl Alley Growers Association, Battelle Plaza, every Thursday from 11am to 1:30pm, from July 12 through October 25. Battelle Plaza is the red brick plaza area located in the Arena District at 375 N. Front Street.

    Pearl Market Downtown Columbus (Summer), Pearl Alley downtown, Every Tuesday & Friday from 10:30am-2 pm from Tuesday May 15 through Friday October 26.     Plain City Farmers Market, Located at the corner of S. Chillicothe and S.R. 161 the market is every Thursday from 4:30-6:30pm starting June 28th to October 4th. Fresh fruits and veggies, baked and canned goods, order for poultry and eggs, cut flowers. Like them on Facebook.

    Powell Farmers Market, June 2 through Oct 27th on Saturdays from 9am-12pm at Local Roots parking lot just East of Olde Powell.

    Reynoldsburg Farmers’ Market, 1520 Davidson Drive in Huber Park, Every Thursday from 3:30-6:30pm, July 5 through September 22. Established in 2008, market visitors will find tomatoes, sweet corn, melons, eggplant, asparagus, beans, cabbage, onions, honey, flowers, herbs, and baked goods. Like them on Facebook.

    SouthPointe Farmers’ Market, 3477 South High Street, Permanently closed on January 23, 2012.

    Sunbury Farmers’ Market, Sunbury Square, Every Saturday from 9am-noon, May 26 through October 20. Local produce, products, and homegoods. Like them on Facebook, although the website is kept more to date.

    Upper Arlington Farmers’ Market, Earlier start time this year – Every Wednesday from May 16 – October 10 (No market on July 4), 3-6 pm. Upper Arlington Senior Center, 1945 Ridgeview Road. Market held rain or shine. Fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers and dairy. Special events include the Harvest Festival August 8th. ‘Start the season off right by putting an edge on your mower blades, garden tools, knives and scissors’. Sharpening services are scheduled at the market for: June 6, August 1, September 5, and October 3.

    Uptown Westerville Farmers’ Market, N. State and E. Home Streets, Every Wednesday, 3-6pm, May 2 through October 31, rain or shine, free parking. Market Wednesday is now in its 7th season. New vendor this year: Fox Hollow Farm of Fredericktown, featuring grass-fed, naturally raised beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and fresh eggs. Offering products that are home-grown, home-made and all Ohio.     WINTER MARKET! Worthington Farmers Market, They’ve updated their blog address and dropped the “olde.” Every Saturday, 10am to 1pm at the Shoppes at Worthington Place. 7227 N. High St. November 3 to April 27th. You will find locally grown seasonal fruits and vegetables, locally produced cheeses, jams, jellies, honey and maple syrup, high quality cuts of meat from carefully raised farm animals, eggs from pastured chickens, flowers, herbs, plants, homemade soaps, and foodstuffs. The market is a year-round tradition that is held in the heart of Worthington. The summer market runs every Saturday from May thru October and is followed by our indoor winter market, which runs Saturdays from November thru April.
