Hungry Monkey + Junior’s Tacos Expanding to Suburbs

The Hungry Monkey Food Truck began its mobile quest to take over the big-ole-sloppy-burger world last year, and happily, it seems that journey has paid off. Founders Neil Hertenstein and Adam Frontuto have expanded their successful operation to Gahanna, opening a Hungry Monkey in conjunction with Junior’s Taco on February 22nd inside the Alumni Club in Gahanna located at 395 Stone Ridge Lane.

In addition to offering customer favorites like the Wyatt Earp, a quarter-pound burger topped with bacon, Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, sweets slaw, and an obscene amount of Ray Ray’s Hog Pit sweet barbecue sauce, and the Mr Myagi, loaded with muenster, grilled bean sprouts, more carmelized onions, egg yolk and tum tum sauces served on an onion bun, the Hungry Monkey claims to serve the “hottest burger in the United States… period”.

The Voodoo burger is a hellish concoction featuring bacon, caramelized onions, cheese, jalapenos, serranos, habaneros, and the be-warned-it’s-lethal voodoo sauce made from the Trinidad Moruga scorpion pepper, the hottest pepper on earth. Every weekend, the Hungry Monkey holds its Voodoo Burger challenge, where crazy chili heads attempt to consume this deathball for a free meal, t-shirt, and perennial glory.

And if burgers aren’t your thing, they have wings that are also doused in the killer sauce, or any one of several sauces made in-house. Hungry Monkey Gahanna now also makes pizzas as  well as their own fresh chips, which come with every purchase.

On March 31st, Hertenstein and Frontuto will continue their burger crusade when they open Hungry Monkey Dublin by taking over the kitchen at Flannagan’s Pub, located at 6835 Caine Road. They will carry the same menu fans have grown to love, but will also showcase a full Junior’s Taco menu.

In addition, they’re planning another Man vs Food-type contest, an as-yet unnamed burrito challenge featuring a 27-inch, 5-pound behemoth. These guys are in self-professed “beast mode”, determined to bring the Hungry Monkey experience to every part of Central Ohio. Follow the domination at www.facebook.com/hungrymonkey.foodtruck.
