How to Supercharge Your Summer Staycation

The COVID-19 pandemic has summer plans looking a little different this year. While water parks, family getaways and distant tropical destinations might be out of the question, there’s no reason your vacay visions can’t come to life right here at home.

Even though you might be experiencing a little FOMO, staying at home means you may actually get to relax more without the hustle and bustle of travel. Your staycation can give you a chance to explore your surroundings, complete some DIY projects and even disconnect from the digital world. So, if you’re set on staying local this summer, here’s how you can upgrade your staycation and still have an Insta-worthy time at home:

Be a Tourist in Your Own Town.

While some local attractions may not be open due to the coronavirus, there are still plenty of ways to be a tourist in your own town. Go hiking in a metro park, participate in a virtual 5k, treat yourself to a spa day, shop local or get dressed up and try a new restaurant every night! You can treat your town like a new travel destination, likely at a much more affordable price

    DIY Your Dream Backyard.

This is the perfect time to make your backyard or patio your private escape! Just a few DIY upgrades can turn an outdoor space into the perfect relaxing retreat. Perk up your patio with a comfy chair, an outdoor rug, greenery and lighting. Can’t get to the pool or beach this summer? Buy an inexpensive above ground pool for your backyard and create your own DIY oasis. There’s no reason you can’t soak up some rays and enjoy the water from the comfort of your own home!

Consider completing some home improvements that have been on your list for way too long. Want to put in new floors? Upgrade your kitchen countertops? If you have bigger projects in mind (think in-ground pool or new deck), a staycation is the perfect time to tackle these projects and potentially add value to your home.

    Disconnect to Reconnect.

While we usually plan to disconnect from our daily life on vacation, that never truly happens. Disconnecting digitally can be tough. We often find ourselves wanting to check emails, or take the perfect pic and post about the great time we’re having. But, what if a staycation is just what we need to unplug from the social world and reconnect with the people around us? While you’re “out-of-office” is on, consider temporarily removing emails and social apps from your phone in order to fully appreciate the people you’re spending time with. It’s the quality of your time, not the quantity of pictures and posts that matter
