House Wine Undergoing a Draft Beer Renovation

House Wine opened five years in historic Downtown Worthington, and owner Donnie Austin has announced plans to close up shop today. Thankfully it’s only temporary, as House Wine is actually in the middle of an upgrade to their non-wine offerings with the installation of a new twelve-tap draft beer system.

With a quick reopening planned for Wednesday, we spoke with Donnie to find out about the their draft beer selection and growler options. Our full Q&A can be found below:

Q: House Wine has had bottled beer available for quite awhile. What can you tell us about your decision to add more beer offerings?

A: We’ve seen a steady increase in beer sales and our customers craving more. We feel that a vast selection of craft beer complements our wine selection, for both retail and on-premise customers. Now we have all fronts covered when it comes to wine and beer. Customers can drink the craft drafts at our shop, take home a growler or select from our 100+ beers by the bottle.

Columbus Underground is celebrating Local Beer this week, brought to you by our friends at Savor Growl. All this week we’re featuring articles on breweries, beer shops, tastemakers, growler fill stations and more!

Q: What brands and styles of beer will you carry, and how often will you rotate the selection?

A: We’ll have a broader mix than before, both on draft and by the bottle, as we begin to carry foreign craft beers. The 12 beers on tap will give you a range of styles to choose from and we’ll also feature a couple Ohio breweries at any given time. We plan to rotate most of the taps on a regular basis as we’ve always done with our beers previously. We’ll have a couple IPAs for the hopheads but a diverse mix for customers with a broader beer palate.

Q: Is the draft system a more traditional model, or something high-tech like your wine system?

A: We’ll have a traditional draft system. Due to our layout and amount of space, we’ll have the equipment behind our counter and cash wrap.

Q: Anything else we should know about the new beer draft offerings or the re-opening?

A: We plan to reopen this Wednesday with special pricing on draft pours enjoyed at the shop from 5pm to 9pm to celebrate and share the new offering.
