After just opening in June of 2018, House Wine has closed its Bexley location. Owner Donnie Austin cited a lack of local support as the reason for the closure.
“We’re thankful for the friends we’ve made since we opened in July. We just haven’t had the level of support we needed to make this location sustainable,” he posted on Facebook on Tuesday, April 16. “Our Worthington location is still going strong so you can still visit us there, and we’re thankful for our customers who’ve been with us over the past 12 years.”
House Wine is a boutique wine shop that first debuted in Worthington in 2008. The retailer offers wine by the ounce or glass, using Enomatics that keep the bottles at an ideal temperature and can preserve the wine for over a month. Austin is selling these machines, along with a draft beer unit, merchandising fridge, shelves, furniture, and their liquor license.
The shop will remain open until 9 p.m. this week, but hours are subject to change. All wine inventory and accessories are 20 percent off; it’s illegal to discount beer. Any previously scheduled tastings and events have been cancelled.
House Wine in Worthington remains open and is located at 644 High St.
