In the short amount of time since their launch earlier this year, Hot Chicken Takeover has quickly become a local favorite. The restaurant’s outdoor summertime setup lends itself well to community-centric picnic luncheons, but does not work quite as well during the colder months. That problem gets solved today, as HCT owner Joe DeLoss has announced plans to operate inside The North Market from December through May of next year.

“We have been searching for options to keep operations running through the winter and North Market was such a perfect match,” says DeLoss. “It shares the same mission of community, food and connection. I approached the Market and they had a temporary space available in the NoMa Kitchen and I seized the opportunity.”

The NoMa Kitchen is located upstairs on the south end of the building. The space was once home to Braddock’s Diner, but has operated as event space since the diner closed several years ago. With the space formerly operating as a restaurant, it lends itself well to hosting a pop-up concept like Hot Chicken Takeover.

“I have personally been following Joe and the buzz he has created not only in Columbus but nationally through his Kickstarter campaign and through his progressive initiatives to employ individuals in need,” said North Market Executive Director Rick Harrison Wolfe. “His story is inspiring and his business is local and best-in-class and that is what we are always looking for to compliment the merchant mix at the market.”

The pop-up at the North Market is expected to be temporary as DeLoss has his sights set on a more permanent home, as well as a mobile operation that will be launched thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised $63,401 last month.

Hot Chicken Takeover will remain open in its Olde Towne East location at 1117 Oak Street through Sunday, November 23rd. The North Market pop-up location will soft-open in mid-December with a grand opening planned for January 10th. The HCT pop-up will be open Friday through Sunday during regular North Market hours of operation.
