It’s been one year since the Hollywood Casino Columbus first opened its doors on the west side of town, and officials are gathering today at the facility to discuss the positive impacts it’s had on the community.

“Long before the casino opened its doors, we talked about our goals: bringing first-class entertainment and gaming to the region, becoming a good corporate citizen through economic development and philanthropy, and fulfilling our commitments to the state in terms of our operations,” said Ameet Patel, vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino Columbus.

Since opening, the casino has paid out over $71 million in taxes to the state of Ohio, and additionally donated over $1 million to local charities and nonprofit organizations.

According to a news report by 10tv yesterday, revitalization to the west side neighborhoods surrounding the casino has yet to materialize, with some business owners stating that business has actually declined following the opening of the casino. The article states that the casino is designed to draw customers in, and doesn’t encourage them to visit other nearby businesses.

Over 3.7 million guests have visited the Hollywood Casino in its first year of business for an average of over 10,000 visitors per day.
