    Holiday Shopping Guide – Last Minute Gifts

    We are getting down to the wire! Three more days to finish up your shopping. Here are some ideas for those of you waiting until the last minute!

    1. Yule Log – $31.95

    Decorate your holiday table with this beautiful Yule Log made by the talented staff at Mozart’s Bakery and Piano CafĂ©. The moist yellow sponge cake is filled with raspberry preserves and decorated with chocolate buttercream and gorgeous handmade marzipan toadstools. It feeds eight to ten people. Mozart’s will be open for regular business hours on Friday (7:30am-11pm) and on Saturday, will open at 7:30am and close at 6pm. They may have a few in stock, but to be sure you get one, call ahead to order.

    2. Memberships to Columbus’ #1 Organizations – Prices Vary

    Columbus is home to some of the best organizations in the country – the zoo and COSI consistently get top rankings. Give the gift of membership! There are many different levels, COSI’s options range from $65-$250. They will be closed on Saturday. The Columbus Zoo offers discounts for purchasing memberships online and the prices range from $39-$114. Memberships at the Columbus Museum of Art begin at $25. The Franklin Park Conservatory has memberships beginning at $30. Community Shares also has memberships availableto many non-profits.

    3. Assortment of Spices – Prices Vary

    You can pick out a nice assortment of spices from North Market Spices, pair them with a mortar and pestle set from North Market Cookware (small -$7.99 and large – $15.99) and have a gorgeous gift in no time! Choose spices and rubs you know your recipient uses, or give them a new selection to encourage new recipes. The North Market will be open regular hours and will have Live Holiday Music playing at various times during the day. You can also just pick up gift certificates to the North Market in any amount if you would like to give a gift of choice!

    4. New Home Toolkit – Prices Vary

    Know someone who just moved into a new home? Or maybe a young couple that could use a few tool upgrades? Head to Goodale Hardware Pro in Grandview Heights and pick out a few new items for their toolbox.

    5. Birthday Haircuts and Shaves for Life – $500

    Gift a man in your life a lifetime of birthday shaves and haircuts and help out Old Familiar Barbershop at the same time. For $500.00, the Familiar For Life program gets one “a permanent place on the wall with your name, an antique shaving mug, and free shave and haircut on your birthday, for the rest of your life from Old Familiar .” They will be opening in the beginning of 2012 in Olde Towne East, offering hot-towel straight razor shaves along with classic and modern haircuts. Gift certificates in any amount are also available.

    6. Ohio Gift Baskets at The Hills Market – $14.99 and up

    Give the gift of Ohio food. The Hills Market can put together a beautiful gift basket at any price point. They will be open from 8am to 6pm on Saturday. Bring in your own container, or use one of theirs to surprise your loved one with a bounty of beautiful Ohio food.

    7. Cards and Stamps – Prices Vary

    One of my favorite gifts to give to someone who may not be able to get out of the house much is a stack of cards for any and all occasions and enough stamps to send them. Columbus is home to plenty of wonderful card shops – On Paper in The Short North, Market Blooms in The North Market, Peabody Papers in Grandview, Pinney Kelly Paper or By Request in Upper Arlington, Fine Lines in Worthington and New Albany, or stores like Tigertree and Wholly Craft also carry cards. Pick up your stamps and tie the stack with ribbon and you have a very thoughtful gift.

    8. CAPA Tickets – Prices Vary

    CAPA puts on so many shows all year long that you gift recipient will be sure to find something they are excited to go to. You can buy CAPA gift certificates in any amount above $5 and they can be used to purchase tickets to any show in a CAPA venue.     9. Candles – $15 or $21 for gift packs

    The Candle Lab has several locations around town for you to drop in and pick up a favorite scent or two to gift. The candles are 8oz of hand-poured soy and are $15. Buy 3 of the 8oz candles, get 1 free! Themed gift packs come with four smaller candles in a colorful gift bag and are $21. The stores will have special hours of 11am to 5pm on Saturday.
