The moment you’ve been waiting for is officially here. The team at The Hills Market has officially planted their opening flag on the calendar and will be cutting the ceremonial ribbon for their new Downtown grocery story on March 19th.
The Downtown Hills Market was originally announced in October 2011, with a Spring 2012 opening timeframe in mind. It took almost an entire extra year of construction delays and setbacks, but residents are happy that the wait is finally over.
“The opening of the new Hills Market is a welcomed addition to our growing Downtown community,” said Susan Ungar, President of the Downtown Residents’ Association of Columbus (DRAC). “I know, as a resident, the presence of a grocery tailored to our needs is very exciting, and I am thrilled that Hills sees the value of being a part of the most exciting growth in Columbus.”
The 12,000 square foot store is located on Grant Avenue in the Discovery District section of Downtown, next door to the Grass Skirt Tiki Lounge. The store will offer most modern grocery amenities including prepared foods, meat and seafood counters, a floral department, a bakery and a large beer and wine selection.
“Hills Market makes me look at North Grant Avenue in a whole new light,” said Cleve Ricksecker, Executive Director of the Discovery District Special Improvement District.”I can imagine a retail cluster along Grant that would serve CCAD, Columbus State, and Capital University Law School, as well as the rest of Downtown. This area has potential to become a commercial center for the Discovery District.”
