When the Alchemy Juice Bar + Cafe opened on Parsons Avenue in late 2014, it was looking to set some trends. Not only was it one of the first new businesses to spring up around the expanded Nationwide Children’s Hospital campus, it was also a local leader in healthy and nutritious food, designed by a dietician. That doesn’t mean it has to be exclusionary though.

“Really, Alchemy is for anyone — the food is certainly good enough,” said CU Food Critic Miriam Bowers Abbott in her official review. “But it has a special appeal for people who want food that does something — the cafe promotes itself as offering nutrient-dense fare that nourishes the mind and body.”

For those who have not made it a point to try Alchemy yet, the restaurant will be on-hand at the upcoming Healthy Bites festival this Friday, July 29th with both food and drink samples for guests. They’ll be serving up bite-sized appetizers made from barbecued jackfruit with a purple cabbage slaw and herbed cashew cream, topped cilantro and served on toast. The bite will be paired with a sample of the cafe’s dragonfruit lemonade.

Healthy Bites will take place from 6pm-9pm at the newly renovated Columbus Museum of Art. Advance tickets are $30 and will include food samples, live entertainment, participatory yoga demos by Art of Yoga, admission to the current exhibits at The Columbus Museum of Art  and a cash bar.
