The Hills Market Downtown celebrated its third birthday a few weeks ago, and in addition to the traditional party fanfare, the grocery store added a new growler fill station to ring in the occasion. The station is located just inside the front doors, near the existing wine tasting table.
“As more and more people move Downtown near our grocery store, I’ve had a lot of customers asking if we were going to have a growler station in the future, so we started to come up with a plan to install one,” said Amanda Anderson, Wine and Cheese Director at The Hills Market Downtown. “I also knew of a lot of new breweries opening in Columbus that weren’t going to be offering beer in bottles or cans right away. I wanted to be able to support these new local breweries as well as having the option of pouring some of the more rare beers that come from our local breweries.”
The station features six taps that will primarily focus on local beer, with one tap dedicated to a gluten-free cider or kombucha option. A custom-built bar wraps the station so customers can enjoy beer on-site as well.
“We already have a few regulars,” said Anderson. “I would love to see more people hanging out and having a pint after work, or during their lunch break enjoying a pint on the patio.”
Anderson added that the summer calendar at the Hills Downtown is already packed with special events including cocktail dinners, bloody mary brunches, and more. And with warm weather having finally arrived, the timing is perfect.
“On Friday June 3rd, we have a wine tasting that will be heavily focused on warm weather wines,” she stated. “We won’t be having a Friday night wine tasting in July or August, so I wanted to make sure customers have a chance to try all the perfect wines for summer before the warmer weather is here for good. And of course, we will have a picnic table full of delicious food that pairs perfectly with summer weather — barbecue, watermelon and some delicious deep fried snacks are definitely on the menu.”
