Greek Express Now Open on Fifth Avenue
If you are a fan of Greek food in Columbus, then chances are you know the Cela family. After all, they own Acropolis Gyro Palace in Clintonville, #1 Gyro Shoppe on the West side, and two Greek Express restaurants, one in Powell, the other near Polaris.
Now, they’re bringing their distinct flair to Fifth by Northwest, opening a third Greek Express restaurant at the corners of Kenny Road and West Fifth Avenue, at the site of a former KFC. The concept of the shop is fairly straightforward: customers can order pita sandwiches, salads, and kebobs, made-to-order, or choose from a variety of combos.
Greek Express also carries subs and hot dogs, not traditionally Greek fare, in an attempt to satisfy all tastes. Desserts are also available, and prices range from $3 to $12 per item, so a trip in for lunch or dinner won’t break your bank.
The Cela family came to Columbus from Albania via Greece some 13 years ago, and in that time, have created something that Central Ohioans have fully embraced. Ferdinand and his wife, Lorena, have built their group of restaurants from the ground-up, and together with Ferdinand’s brother, Samir, hope to continue to create spaces people not only want to visit, but want to make a regular spot.
“We really want to invite the community in to try our food,” says Ferdinand Cela. “People think we sell fast food; we give fast service, but not fast food.”
Greek Express is located at 1110 West Fifth Avenue, and can seat up to 60 people at a time in the 2,500-square foot eatery. The building itself hardly resembles the vacated KFC anymore, as the Celas are as much invested in the presentation of their restaurant as they are in the preparation of their food.
Greek Express is open Monday-Saturday, 9:30am-10pm, and 11am-9pm on Sundays. The menu will be almost identical to the ones at the other 2 Greek Express locations, so for a longer look, visit www.greekexpressfamily.com/greekexpress.
