Geordie’s to Close at the End of the Month
After a two-year run, Geordie’s Restaurant will say goodbye to Merion Village by the end of the month.
The English pub, located at 1586 S. High St., announced its imminent closure on social media.
“Due to changes intended for the space we occupy in Merion Village and the ongoing industry-wide staff shortages, we have made the difficult decision to close Geordie’s Restaurant effective May 31st 2021,” the post read.
Research from the National Restaurant Association finds that employment in the industry remains 15% below pre-pandemic levels. In Ohio specifically, industry employment was down 13.2% from February 2020 to February 2021.
Chef Glen Hall-Jones opened the restaurant in May 2019, filling a gap in Columbus for classic English fare like Scotch Eggs, Fish & Chips and Bangers & Mash.
Hall-Jones hopes this won’t be the last the city sees of Geordie’s, though.
“We hope to see you again in some variation of our concept in the future,” the post read.
For diners looking for one last meal, reservations are recommended.
Geordie’s is currently open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 4 – 8 p.m. and for brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
