GCAC Selects Local, International Exchange Artists for Residency Program

The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) has selected artists for its new “Space & Time” residency program, including two German artists and 10 local residency participants selected from Cart Pushers Studio Residency.

The German artists were selected as part of the council’s annual international artist exchange, a partnership started in the mid-’90s where artists in Dresden, Germany are hosted in Columbus, and vice versa.

“Space & Time” is designed to provide artists the opportunity to use GCAC’s studio space for up to 60 days, free of charge. The council rents studio space Downtown, complete with lighting and furniture, to accommodate the two visiting artists.

The artists chosen for the residency are Annie Chrissy Burley, an animator and Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) grad, and Cudelice “CJ” Brazelton, a Columbus-based artist who works in textiles, industrial hardware, and cosmetics.

Alison Barret, GCAC’s grants and services director and organizer of the “Space & Time” program, says exchange artists will only be using the studio in the spring and fall, so GCAC decided to partner with Cart Pushers to select local artists for its residency program.

“We know that a good many local artists would love to have designated studio space,” she says. “Making our selection this year from the 10 Cart Pushers residency participants will help us glean insight from artists that are comfortable working independently and have residency experience.”

“Based on this pilot, we hope to assess the experience and artist benefit as well as refine and broaden the opportunity,” she says.
