Gateway Partnership Delivers Virtual Screenings
Like the Wexner Center for the Arts, Gateway Film Center is partnering with independent distributors to bring new indies direct to their virtual cinema, benefitting not only entertainment-starved movie fans, but the film center as well.
Movies streaming from the website now include Oscar nominee Corpus Christi, Cannes nominee And Then We Danced, and the acclaimed indies Saint Frances and Zombi Child.
According to Chris Hamel, GFC’s president and programmer, the films are available via Gateway’s site before they hit traditional streaming methods and each movie should be available for a few weeks.
The partnerships allow GFC to bring films to Columbus moviegoers first, and it gives those who watch the chance to help the film center financially while the cinema is closed to the public.
“If people want to support the center, it is important they use the links we have provided on our social media channels, our e-mails and our website,” Hamel says.
Both Gateway and the Wex intend to continue to add films to their sites as the new cinematic normal evolves.
“We are grateful for the incredible support we have received from the community,” Hamel says. “It really has been uplifting for me and the team. If individuals wish to support us while our program is suspended they can watch one of these films, make a donation, or purchase gift cards.”
Films and other programming, including a program of documentaries (in the On Demand tab under Movies and Tickets) are on Gateway’s website.
