The latest national retailer to implode in 2017 is Minnesota-based sporting goods store Gander Mountain. The company filed for bankruptcy in March, and announced plans to close 32 stores this year (none of those closures are in Ohio), but earlier this week it was revealed that many more are likely on the chopping block.
Competitor Camping World announced on Monday that it had won a $38 million bid to acquire the assets of Gander Mountain. Marcus Lemonis, CEO of Camping World, stated that he expects to close at least half of Gander Mountain’s existing 160 stores.
There’s no word yet on which stores are on their way out. Central Ohio is home to two Gander Mountain locations, one at Westpointe Plaza on Hilliard-Rome Road, and another in Reynoldsburg, located just off Route 256.
Other national retailers that have closed locations in 2017 include Rue21, Gamestop, RadioShack, hhgregg, J.C. Penney, Wet Seal, American Apparel, The Limited and Macy’s.
