Columbus Crew SC bounced back from the embarrassing 0-5 drubbing in Toronto last Friday evening with a convincing 3-0 victory over a sluggishly ineffective, albeit weakened by injuries, 2016 Champions, Seattle Sounders on a rare Wednesday night MLS game at MAPFRE Stadium.

It took the home side only 10 minutes to ease the fears of a continued slide down the table, when Federico Higuain’s low strike from just outside the area nestled into the corner of Seattle’s net.

Justin Meram, looking like a man on a mission, decided to take on the entire Sounders team in the 21st minute. Picking up the ball just inside the opposition half, the Crew SC winger made an unchallenged bee-line run toward the Seattle goal before sticking the ball into the same spot Higuain did 10 minutes prior.

Seattle offered very little challenge to the two goal lead as Columbus were happy to keep possession and stroke the ball around the width of the field while keeping the game’s pace down to what felt like a training exercise at times.

Ola Kamara grabbed his eighth goal of the season early in the second half with a laser-accurate strike across goal after Justin Meram played a perfectly weighted through ball beyond a sleepy Sounders defense.

Crew SC have a quick turn around before their next game that takes place Saturday night in Colorado.
