    Freshbox Catering Opening Downtown Café

Freshbox Catering announced this afternoon that the business would be expanding to the realm of brick-and-mortar retail business with the launch of a dedicated cafe space at 125 East Broad Street in the lower level of the Trinity Episcopal Church.

The new restaurant will be known as Freshbox Cafe, and will serve a similar style of fresh, healthy and affordable foods that customers have grown familiar with since their launch in 2009. Sandwiches are all priced at $5.79, salads at $6.79, and a variety of soups, sides and desserts will also be on their menu.

“We think that most of our cafe customers will be folks working in the Downtown area as well as visitors to the Statehouse,” said Freshbox General Manager Lauren Wilson. “We have a large number of offices and organizations downtown already supporting Freshbox Catering and our social mission, and we have gotten great feedback that they’re excited to be able to walk over and grab some of their favorite menu items outside of their usual meetings and catered events.”

Previously, the lower-level space in the church housed another restaurant, so the conversion for Freshbox is a perfect fit.

“There was a restaurant called The Place to Be located in the lower level of Trinity for about fifteen years,” explains Wilson. “It closed, I think, about eight years ago, but we still have people who pop their heads in during the day and share memories of eating there. We’re definitely hoping that Freshbox Cafe will bring some of those folks back for a new experience.”

Freshbox is owned and operated by Lutheran Social Services, making it a unique social enterprise business. Their dual mission is to provide quality food while fighting poverty with workforce training, empowering employment opportunities, and other professional and life skills.

The Freshbox Cafe is expected to open on Monday, May 5th, and will operate Monday through Friday from 11am to 2pm.
