Fox in the Snow Cafe Opening Second Location in German Village

Popular Italian Village coffee-and-bakery hangout Fox in the Snow Cafe announced today that they’re ready to expand after just two years of bustling business on North Fourth Street. The local company will open a second location next summer at the intersection of Thurman Avenue and Jaeger Street in German Village.

“There were a couple of neighborhoods we’ve always been interested in, but what really gets us going is a unique building,” explained Owner Jeff Excell on the phone with Columbus Underground this morning. “Unfortunately — and this isn’t a slam against Columbus — there’s not a ton of old buildings that haven’t been bulldozed. That’s been a challenge.”

The building where the new cafe will be located is being split in half with another business that is expected to make a separate announcement in the future. Excell said that their half of the building will offer about the same amount of seating as their Italian Village location with a bit more prep room in the back. A similar menu to the original location is expected at the new German Village spot.

Parking for the businesses will be accomodated by 18 spaces in the rear of the building, and Excell mentioned that parking is ample all around Schiller Park, just a block north. While the project has not yet been reviewed by the German Village Commission, Excell is confident that they’ll be able to proceed with their plans.

“We’re always worried about commissions, but the Italian Village Commission was fantastic to us, so we’re hoping for a similar reaction,” he stated. “We want to add value rather than take away from the neighborhood, so we hope it will be well received.”

Additionally, Excell stated this morning on Facebook that Fox in the Snow Cafe could potentially expand with more locations in more Columbus neighborhoods in the future.
