I’ll share a personal story. My best friend growing up had endometriosis which is essentially uncontrollable bleeding and horrible pain from her lady parts. She was put on birth control at age 13 to help manage this condition. She did not have sex until her 20’s.

Now, if you were having uncontrollable bleeding from your asshole and the medication to manage it wasn’t covered by your insurance, what would you do?

By the way, this wasn’t a lifestyle choice.

I don’t really have a problem with it being at Easton, but I’d love to see them open another central Ohio location.

It makes sense to open up a location there since it’s going to see a lot of traffic. I’m just not a fan of suburbia or malls. *shudder*

I am happy that they have some late hours. As a night owl, I can definitely appreciate that. Easton for the most part shuts down around 10pm so this is a smart move by them to be open later than most places.

I want to go to there… aww it’s at Easton? On the “flip side” they are open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Hmm…

in reply to: Alternative to Time Warner? #223694

I’m cutting off my cable cold turkey August 1st. The apartment complex that I live in is wired so the only cable you can get is Time Warner or satellite, but I can choose to have any ISPs. I have had TWC internet/cable bundle and I hate it. It’s expensive and the internet isn’t that great. I have to reset it every two days to get it to work.

Any advice on alternative ISPs? I want a decent speed but doesn’t have to be top of the line. Maybe around $50 or less? And preferably not AT&T if possible.

I don’t want to say I told you so, but Meltworks is no longer open/never opened. Maybe because they were actually a SANDWICH SHOP rather than a grilled cheese restaurant ;)

They were on that stupid TV to pitch the concept. They didn’t win, which is probably better for them since 2 of the 3 promised locations for the winner have already been shuttered.

Yup, America’s Next Great Restaurant. It’s been done. There’s already Melt in Cleveland and Gooeyz here.

I do not understand the appeal of this. They could just put in the extra effort to learn Photoshop.

No, I’ve never worked there nor do I have anything against them. Just as someone in the restaurant industry, I find that not paying servers an hourly wage is heinous especially since it is so little. I just saw the post and thought it was worth mentioning.

I wonder if this is relevant to the discussion.
    Fair Labor Standards Act Advisor
What is the minimum wage for workers who receive tips?
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires payment of at least the federal minimum wage to covered, nonexempt employees. An employer of a tipped employee is only required to pay $2.13 an hour in direct wages if that amount plus the tips received equals at least the federal minimum wage, the employee retains all tips and the employee customarily and regularly receives more than $30 a month in tips. If an employee’s tips combined with the employer’s direct wages of at least $2.13 an hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference.
Some states have minimum wage laws specific to tipped employees. When an employee is subject to both the federal and state wage laws, the employee is entitled to the provisions which provides the greater benefits.

I’m not sure about the legalese but all I know is as a former server, no one wanted to work week day lunches where you would usually make $30 or less in tips. In this situation if no one came in, that server would be making $0. You have to pay people for their time. You really can’t shell out the 10 bucks to pay them hourly?

FYI: Just found this on Craigslist

    Servers needed (Taj mahal)

Taj mahal located 2321 north high street between Oakland and Patterson is in search of servers with Experience. Please apply in person and dress for an interview at the spot.
Servers earn tips, nothing additional as far as hourly. If interested, serious and most importantly have serving experience, come in.

    Thank you

    And this fantastic response:

SHAME ON YOU TAJ MAHAL…….This is so illegal !!

Any past or current employees working at the Taj Mahal should file Form SS-8 with the IRS. The IRS will determine that this is an illegal business practice for a restaurant. All current and past employees will receive all back pay for every hour they have worked. The hourly wage should be 50% of the minimum wage for Ohio plus tips. Restaurant servers are NOT independent contractors.

Additionally, no one in the community should ever eat at a restaurant that thinks they can get away with not paying their employees properly and stupidly post their illegal business practices on Craigslist.

Watch out Taj Mahal this is not the end of it. You cannot avoid taxes to the State of Ohio and the IRS on your employees by avoiding paying them.

Does Channel 6 on Your Side know about this ? Here’s a link …. http://www.policymattersohio.org/pdf/wagetheftmeetingsummary2010_0521.pdf

Here’s the specials for next week:
    • Two for one appetizers
    • $6 Martinis
    • $2 Draft 312 Urban Wheat Ale from Goose Island
    • $2 Draft Kostritzer Black Lager
    • Complimentary snacks & samplers from Chef Dave MacLennan
    Fun! ;)

Sounds like another good one! Hopefully the 312 will remain unspoiled by then from Goose Island’s recent takeover by Anheuser-Busch.
