Got our tickets in the mail yesterday! Made it feel really real, lol. Perks of season ticket holders = completely stress free for playoff and cup final ticket needs! Feel sorry for my friends scrambling to find them. So pissed at stubhubbers :(
I cannot believe how many seasons of shitty soccer I suffered through in the Nordecke only to have to watch tonight’s match on TV, lol. Kids! Argh!
Anyone want to babysit Dec 5th? :)
The writers at Massive Report will do a preview, but the three Red Bull matches during the season are a good place to start. These teams know each other, they will attack, it will be physical, likely chippy, guaranteed to be exciting. Bottom line, if the Crew can shut B. Wright-Phillips down in Columbus and not give up a NYRB away goal, the second leg at RBA becomes much less daunting. My gut says we will end the 22nd with a 2/1 win (giving them the away goal advantage), but I think we ultimately draw at RBA 1-1 which gets the Crew the ticket to the final.
3/28 – 2/1 (L) at RBA
7/4 – 1/2 (W) at RBA
10/3 – 1/2 (L) at Mapfre
The next round of playoffs will not disappoint. Yesterday was 8 hours of insanity to get to the 4 remaining teams. Expect the next round to be equally intense.
The weekday playoff matches are BS for attendance. You’re not really “in the playoffs” until conference semi’s and get the home and away which is why winning last night was so important. I have confidence in this city that we can get it together for a true Sunday playoff match on the 8th. *Tickets reserved when they were opened up to STH last month, woo!
Getting a big group to be there on Nov 1st is huge. Hoping for baby girl’s first away match! Get your passports ready, there’s a good chance we’re going to Canada :)
Hendoc’s is the official pub of the Columbus Gooners, but will be open at 7:30am Sat AND Sun for opening weekend. COYG!
Jon and Willy will have breakfast available as well. Come on down!
There should absolutely be an exclusivity to the Nordecke as it should be exclusively for supporters of the 11 players on the field, not those wanting to dick around, start fights, take selfies, yell stupid things completely irrelevant to the match, etc. The FO isn’t ensuring that people purchasing those tickets understand that when they make the tickets available on Ticketmaster and to the OSU student activities desk (or whatever it’s called). The SGs can to some extent by at least ensuring that those purchasing their tickets are invested enough to purchase a SG membership in addition to the ticket. The Nordecke ticket is one of the least expensive in the stadium because you are expected to work while you’re there and are responsible for creating a stadium atmosphere that 1) motivates players and 2) puts butts in seats. When the people who have worked tirelessly for years to do just that are no longer motivated because of the non-supporters taking over the section to party, the system is broken and I expect the behavior outlined in this blog post to become the norm rather than the exception.
The fact that the rest of the stadium is not a pleasant experience for casual fans is also a big problem. It’s kinda the problem we’re having too trying to find where the old Nordeckians are supposed to go now that we have small kids. The top of the section is getting very crowded with strollers, lol. I’d recommend the Upper 90 deck or the stage for casuals. It’s where we’ve set up shop recently and have enjoyed it a lot, but are looking for a permanent home to move our STH to :/
Another match ending like last Sat and the entire stadium might have a meltdown :)
As a female Nordeckian who has felt displaced by the growing brohavior for a few seasons now (full disclosure: mostly due to a new appreciation for my safety because I was preggo and now have a baby to worry about), it is more clear than ever that self-policing will never work in the section again. The fact that the section is even offered up to a first timer is the entire problem. The Nordecke should never be a section for first-timers unless escorted by a seasoned supporter. The FO opened a can of worms it can’t take back when it marketed the Nordecke as the “place to be.” Now the question becomes, where do the real supporters go?
Ooooooh, that is exciting!!
Core told me I needed to start watching this STAT over the weekend, but I haven’t gotten to it yet. Definitely need to squeeze it in with a Snarf rec too!!February 20, 2012 3:08 pm at 3:08 pm in reply to: How many sq ft is your apt/condo/house & is it too big, too small or just right? #482084
~900 sq ft, 2BR/1.5BA. Love that it’s 2 stories so there’s some separation from living/sleeping. Having a half bath downstairs has spoiled me to the point that I will never live anywhere again without at least 1.5 bathrooms. I pretty much use the second bedroom for storage, but it’s supposed to be my office – which is actually just my couch and coffee table. It could also work as a nursery for a year or 2 if needed.
It’s really too big for just one person (my fav apt in Columbus was my studio in Arena Crossing when I first moved here), but is perfect for me + dude. We’ll see how adding a puppy to this mix changes the comfort of the size.
Next place will probably be similar in size, but would rather ditch the dining room sq ftg for a larger kitchen with more storage. Would also love a finished basement for a second living area for entertaining. Private green space feels like a dream :)
I need to know the truth!!! But I also don’t want it to end because I like my weekly date time with Mr. Lewis. Le sigh.
Not expensive, but very inconvenient. I never have cash on hand, much less small bills and change – my change is in my car for parking meters! If I could buy something like a metrocard and be able to keep it on me at all times then I’d be good. Think of the surge of cash to COTA if they did this. I’d buy $20 and it would probably last me years, but they’ve still got my money. Everyone wins!
I’ve only “planned” to ride the bus twice in the almost 6 years I’ve lived here, but have ridden it maybe 5 or 6 times total. I don’t think my $7 is the make or break that gets COTA functioning in a way that I would be a regular rider. Besides, in my 5 quarters at OSU I more than paid for the rides I received ;)
Gosh, I thought I’d at least get free rides until my student loans were paid off ;)
The 12 major league teams running out of fans:
11. Columbus Blue Jackets
• Decrease in attendance: 21.76 percent
• 2001 W-L record: 28–39–9–6 (finished 5th in Central Division)
• 2010 W-L record: 32-35-15 (finished 5th in Central Division)
• League championships last decade: none
I really respect the Arch City Army guys working to turn that around. You, probably more than anyone else posting in this thread, understand how a strong supporters group base (do they still call them that in hockey?) can be a team’s greatest grassroots marketing resource. Will ACA grow to the size of HSH or Crew Union? Who knows, but I know because of them I’ll be checking out a few games this season and one would be more than last season! :) If the team can’t turn attendance around this season with the excitement of these new players they’ve got then the doom and gloom expressed here might be warranted. Really hoping that’s not the case though.
I would expect obit tomorrow. Yes, cancer :(
