I ran a billboard 2 different times years ago& the contract was only 4 weeks on each one. It was way easier& affordable than I thought it would be too- but ANYHOOOO…. I think D.O. should just give them the name, I mean it’s a boring name anyway. I am quite frankly disappointed that such a cool group of restaurants couldn’t come up with something better& more creative ;)) Hows about Dine Out Columbus Week (play on the use of D.O.) Or better yet- “Get Your Grub On- Bigtime” week. Please laugh. Someone…anyone.

Perkins Observatory on 23 near Delaware is only $6 a person. It can be a fun alterna-date. If it is a clear night& weather permitting, share a bottle of wine afterwards on one of your patios- or maybe a picnic beforehand at the park that’s up in that area.

Ok- it is not bacon, but it is pork, so I’ll mention it here. I just got back from NOLA and I had the BEST pulled pork sandwich I have ever had. I do not eat meat very often, but when in Rome- right?? It was a little bar restaurant at the corner of Bienville& Conti called Deja Vu. It was so good I went back 2 times before we left! It was just simple slow cooked bbq pork on a french roll but OH my it was divine. It’s the little things in life… Oh& that bar is open 24 hours. I may have found this heaven place I keep hearing about ;))

Is it the sunset lounge? I saw that place police taped off one nightfor a shooting…..that place is cool though…pre bristol

True story. I went in there last summer at random. If Ive driven by it once, I have driven buy it a thousand times. Anywho, I was riding my Harley Davidson and parked it right at the curb right in front of place. As I walked in, I heard the words “get yo ass kicked”. I pretended to not hear that and just casually walked in, ordered a beer and played some Outkast on the juke box. I was the only white dude in the joint. For the most part I kept to myself other than briefly flirting with some white chick all decked in gangsta style fashion. No one messed with me and I didnt mess with anyone. I walked out and some dudes said ‘nice bike’. I said thanks and roared out of there.

I used to hangout at the Sunset every now and then when I wanted to “hide” and just chill with a friend or two. Everyone was always super friendly towards us. I did get drunk& buy the bar a round or two one night though& after that, they always remembered me. Once after getting my ass kicked working a busy St Pattys at my bar, a friend wanted to have a drink with me when I got out- around 9pm. I said I would only go somewhere that was not busy bc I needed to escape that craziness. So we went to Sunset& sure enough there were like 3 people there& one lonely little green clover decorating the wall. We had fun until my buddy made me try a shorty of Wild Irish Rose… icky.

Oh& the Sugar Shack was a bar my dad drank at in the 60’s or 70’s it was on the same block as Oldfield’s on 4th…

I am SFI by everyone wanting something from me….I made a new friend and invited them to join us over the weekend and they ended up just wanting money and a place to live. WTF? I am startimg to wonder if there are people out there that can be your friend or that you can date that are not always trying to SUCK YOU DRY financially, emotionally or all of the above!!!!!!

I am guessing you are in your 20’s…?? Don’t worry- people like this will always exist, but as you get older (especially with the men) you build internal radar to defend yourself (BS detectors). Of course you may become slightly callus& bitter in the process ;) It gets much easier though to see who you are surrounded by. IME at least…

What is the deal with Ibiza. Isn’t it supposed to be built by now?

No doubt! And don’t get me started on the Jeffrey Place… WTF?? I think the haulting economy has put a stop to most all building projects. Last year constuction workers I know got laid off& now it has trickled up/ down to a few architects I know getting the axe last week. Can’t design anything if they aren’t building anything I guess.

I would love to see both these projects finished in the not so far future, but I doubt that is the reality :(

Not only do I not detest foie gras, I’d make a house out of it and live inside if I could. I’d probably have my clothes and shoes crafted from it too. And I’d drive a car molded from fatty duck liver pate.
And it would have big fat truffles for wheels.
    That is all.
I’d probably even put foie gras on my grilled cheese.
    Yep.
    I said it.

    LOL!!
I have to say -I REALLY enjoy the foie gras as well. I only indulge once or twice a year bc it is sooo bad for you :( Plus- not something you see too frequently on menus. I do think it is one of those “love it or hate it” things though. And if you are a vegetarian, you are prolly destined for the hate-it group.

Something about gray, cool days that always makes me want to cook soup. Today’s choice is homemade spicy vegetable with black beans.

Just one last thought on this whole idea of “convenience”. Corporations love to make gazillions of dollars off of us in America bc they know how to play us. We live the “more- NOW!” mentality that has been beaten into us. With an ATM on every other corner (4 in the SN alone), has it ever really been THAT much of an inconvenience to get cash out when we need it?? 7-8 years ago before the whole debit card thing completely took over, we always found a way to get money for our night out. When Visa/Mastercard decided to get with the banks and start handing these cards out (like candy) that were not just usable at ATms, but at any business that accepted Visa, they didn’t do it to “help” us out. They saw dollar signs& are still taking full advantage of this. If you can make a wireless money transfer online to pay bills& not get charged for it, the same should be true of using an “ATM” card to pay for things… I’m just sayin’.
There is alot of talk about “conscious eating” and “conscious living” and I think this is an example of that. We should try like Roland said& keep money within the community instaed of shopping at Wallmart, say ,or using debit cards for small purchases in small businesses. It is amazing to me that I am not more outraged that it costs me money to accept what is considerd to be cash (debit). See…& here is a thought as well- if customers were charged on their bank account every time they used these debit cards, it might not seem so “convenient” anymore- right?? Instead people are rewarded by it usually (points& whatnot) bc the banks& Visa are making billions from it off of giant businesses& tiny ones as well- like mine every time these cards get swiped. Ok- like I said I know that I am screwded& cannot “get out” of this crazy scam bc I agreed to it years ago& people would freak out. Those hundreds of dollars a month could go to something worthwhile like helping pay for health care for my employees, but I guess it is just as good to make Visa/MC more rich. Sigh. sorry for the rant.

One reason I have not implemented this action (probably never will either) is because in this country& especially during the current economic situation, people are cash-poor. College students who are living off of student loans are a big example of this. While the majority of cards seem to be debit cards, sadly, many people HAVE to charge their unnecessary expenses.

Bravo sir! I don’t think people realize how much it costs for a small business to accept credit cards. It costs me hundreds of dollars a month in fees just to use this form of payment. It’s seriously ridiculous. I have considered putting in an ATM& only taking cash.

I have to confess that, although I very much sympathize with the credit-card issue, a strict policy like this is a little off-putting. I do wonder, though, whether an ATM at the entrance, with a sign that says “Support your local businesses — plan to pay in cash tonight!” would make a difference?

That is why I encourage people to leave their tabs open when they are not sure if they are going to have another drink. I cringe everytime I swipe a card for $6. Damn banking system :(

I am truly baffled by this… what is the obsession with the free peanut/ popcorn thing?? I dunno- never mattered to me when I was seeking bars. ????

Oh& I think the Short North Tavern& Xenos still offer this indulgence:)
