Looks promising, but I’m not particularly optimistic that this will amount to much more than a gathering spot for panhandlers and wanna-be gangstas.

I’ve heard that line regurgitated hundreds of times, but no one ever really explains why they’re predicting that. The majority of our urban parks are normal parks. What sort of precedent leads you to believe that this one is going to be overrun with “greenspace gangstas”?
I imagine there will probably be some people asking for change here and there, but no more than what already exists in the Short North.

Obviously I could be wrong, and I hope that I am wrong. But having spent time in City Center and working downtown, I see the type of people that tend to congregate in that area of town. It does not give me a great deal of confidence that the park will be a friendly place to spend my time. I’ll stick with Schiller Park when my wife and I decide to take our dogs for a walk.

Thanks! I was just curious what people think of the course itself. I’m not sure that I would want to join the club, but if I were looking to join a club, the proximity of CCC to German Village would make it attractive. In a perfect world, I would like to be a member at Scioto CC, but I’m not sure my wife would be on board with that…oh and there’s the whole not having $50K to drop on the initiation!

It’s a little bit hilarious that Bob Evans is relocating its HQ to a fake farm town.

Is it any less hilarious that a company known for farm-style meals current is located in the ghetto?

I saw the Golden Voiced Homeless Man on Tuesday morning as I was walking to Cafe Brioso for my morning coffee. He was coming out of the extended stay hotel on Gay Street and then he got into an SUV and drove off. Then I realized…I don’t care.

Just this morning, I dressed my two dogs and cat up in little tuxedoes and made them do a little dance in the living room for my amusement. Is Joaquin Phoenix telling me that was wrong?

I could be off base, but I got the sense that some folks on this site have a condescending view of those who prefer a life in suburbia. That’s all I meant.

You could be right that *some* have that type of viewpoint, but don’t let it allow you to think that *everyone* here has that viewpoint.

    Fair enough.

Wait…I misread the article apparently, because I missed the part where they told you where you were allowed to live now.

I think he was referring to the comments in this thread.

    Bingo

I didn’t really take anything written here as “I do this so you must do this also”.

What’s wrong with allowing people to make their own choice as to where and how they want to live? Personally, I’ve made the decision to live in German Village. But if and when we have kids, my wife and I will likely move to Arlington or Dublin for the schools. We also have two dogs, so a yard would be a nice thing to have.

My parents live in a suburb in NE Ohio. My dad actually enjoys mowing the lawn and landscaping. That’s what he enjoys. It’s his choice and I don’t begrudge him for it.

    To each his/her own.

I worked in the North Market for like a gazillion years, and I love it to pieces, but I agree that I prefer the West Side Market. It’s apples and oranges though (fittingly); the West Side Market is a creation of lots of little ethnicities over a hundred years or so, Columbus has a more homogenized heritage (notice I am not judging; both have pros and cons) of German and Irish (although today it is certainly growing MUCH more diverse). It’s hard to compete with things like an eastern-European food stall that has been around since God was a boy. It’s just a different thing altogether, and not something I think could be created from whole cloth in Columbus. It’s just a different city.

That’s an excellent point. I don’t mean to criticize the North Market. I go there all the time and I love it. But I would like to have a true ethnic market in Columbus.

I agree that North Market is great, and it’s definitely a more relaxed atmosphere than the West Side Market. That said, I thought that the West Side Market was much more a true “market” than ours…and that includes the selection, quality and the vendors.
For the record, my point in raising this topic is that it would be awesome for Columbus to have something similar.

we do have something “similar” its called the north market… or did you mean “better”?

By “similar” I mean a market akin to the West Side Market. So yes, “better” than what we currently have.

“We have so many stupid rules and regulations that prevent us from getting the best people to come in here.”
Kasich to reporters who asked if the fact his wife and son are patrol officers would lead to any conflict of interest for the new Public Service director.

I find the combination of this constant “we’re just picking the best people” stuff and the fact that every appointee is white and male to be beyond disturbing (seriously, are there any exceptions?) Every damn picture in the paper is another little crowd of white men smiling at each other, and it’s starting to freak me out. The one in the Dispatch this morning of the new Dept of Public Safety appointees was the creepiest yet.

    Give me a break.

When will Twin Peaks and O’Boobigans open up in the Columbus area? Competition is a good thing.
